Starting somewhere – All writers write bad things

You will always look back at early writing and think oh my gosh how bad was that, and that’s the same for everyone – every writer no matter how famous started out writing poorly.

There sometimes feels like there’s a lot of pressure to be an awesome writer / blogger straight away. But I think the most important thing is to try and put your best into your work but strive not for perfection but for continual improvement.

Cultivate it.

One of the reasons I blog is to improve my writing, I’m learning new things all the time. Its not easy to see it everyday but if I look back on writing I did a year ago I can definitely see improvement. Being part of a community where people are always writing, sharing tips and ideas leads to improvement.

Think this is my way of saying don’t let a fear of bad writing hold you back. Even if you do the best you can now, the practice and learning will help you improve. When you look back at writing that you cringe at, just think actually if you hadn’t started there you wouldn’t be where you are now.

  1. That’s a really good point. When I was rebranding and redesigning my blog, I looked back at all my super old blog posts and it was cringe-city honestly. But being able to compare how I used to write to what I’m capable of now, it’s easy to see how far I’ve come and that feels really good.
